New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a two-day state visit to Egypt, after wrapping up a "successful visit to the US." 


On Sunday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi conferred Egypt's highest state honour, 'Order of the Nile' to PM Modi in Cairo. The development comes after the leaders of the two nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding with each other.


The award is granted to heads of states, crown princes, and vice presidents. "It also may be given to Egyptians and foreigners who offer Egypt or humanity invaluable services. Those who receive it shall be saluted upon their death," states the official website. 


This is PM Modi's first visit to Egypt as Prime Minister and the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister after 26 years.




Since 2014, PM Modi received several international awards, including 'Companion of the Order of Logohu' by Papua New Guinea, 'Companion of the Order of Fiji', Ebakl Award by the Republic of Palau, Order of the Druk Gyalpo and Legion of Merit by the US Government.
