PM Narendra Modi's address to nation: As the world fights the coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a 21- day lockdown for India on 22 March 2020. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged people across India to switch off their lights of their homes and hold diyas, candles and mobile flashlights at 9 pm on Sunday, April 5, for 9 minutes to show solidarity and mark India's fight against coronavirus amid lockdown. On Thursday PM Modi announced that he will share a video message addressing the nation on Friday. This is the third time that he will be talking about COVID-19. Modi had also held a video conference with Chief Ministers of various states to discuss the measure to fight the virus which has so far infected over 2,000 people and caused 50 death. He also thanked them for supporting the lockdown and helping India curb the spread of the virus.

  1. PM in his inspiring video message addressed the successful completion of 9 days of lockdown. He praised the discipline and generosity of every citizen of India and thanked the law enforcement authorities for ensuring a safe and secure lockdown.

  2. He also said that the ‘Janta Curfew’ has become an inspiration for the world. 'Thali maro' and 'ghanti bajao' has been imitated all over the world and is a testimony to our power and courage. It also shows that we can fight this virus together.

  3. He talked about the several questions one may have confronted while sitting at home during the lockdown. He says that we need to remind ourselves, that even though we are confined in our houses we are not alone as the collective strength of the entire country is with each one of us.

  4. Modi also said that when the whole country is united in the fight against this pandemic, it will give courage to those who need it the most. It will also give us clarity to move ahead fearlessly. It is imperative that we help those afflicted with the disease and give them hope.

  5. The Prime Minister appealed that On 5th April at 9 pm, citizens across the country switch off all lights for nine minutes and light up lamps or torch or cell phone flashlights. He said that it will display our courage and determination for fighting this battle.
