Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday released the first instalment of Rupees 540 crore to one lakh beneficiaries of a rural housing scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) via video conferencing. He also interacted with some beneficiaries of the scheme during the event. 


The beneficiaries highlighted the positive changes in their life after they availed of government schemes to get access to cooking gas connection, electricity, piped water, and housing.


"It is the endeavour of our government that no one is left out of its welfare schemes," he said.


"The government schemes should reach the most backward tribal brothers and sisters, this is the objective of PM Janman Maha Abhiyan. The government is putting all its efforts to ensure that every scheme of the government reaches them. Now none of my extremely backward brothers and sisters will be left out of the benefits of the government scheme," he added.


Speaking to a class 9th girl from Maharashtra, belonging to one of the families among the beneficiaries, PM Modi asked her about the facilities she gets in school. 






Responding to Modi's question, Kumari Bharti Narayan from Maharashtra's Igatpuri said they get playground for physical activities, hostel for lodging and "good food that keeps us healthy." 


The first instalment of Rs 540 crore was released to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin.


Another beneficiary from Chhattisgarh's Jaspur, who has five members in her family, said she received pucca house under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), electricity, tap water, and gas connection.

On November 15, the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan was launched — with a budget of approximately Rs 24,000 crore — for the socio-economic welfare of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.


The scheme focuses on 11 critical interventions through nine ministries and aims at improving socio-economic conditions of PVTGs. 


Under the scheme, the beneficiaries are entitled to basic facilities such as safe housing, clean drinking water and sanitation, improved access to education, health and nutrition, electricity, road and telecom connectivity, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
