New Delhi: As the nine-day festival ‘Navratra’ celebrating the arrival of Goddess Durga begun on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to people of the country. Prime Minister took to Twitter and prayed for new energy, new zeal and new enthusiasm in the lives of people. PM also wished the countrymen in his address soon after his return from from the US and said that festival to worship Goddess Durga will be observed in all parts of the country. "From tomorrow Navratri festival will begin. The festival of worshipping Shakti is beginning in all parts of the country. The festival of Durga Puja is beginning. I extend my good wishes to Indians on the occasion," Modi had said. He was speaking to an enthusiastic gathering of BJP workers and supporters who had come to the Palam technical airport to greet him over his successful US visit. It is pertinent to note that Prime Minister Narendra Modi observes a nine-day long fast during Navratra. He has been following the practice since many years. In 2012, Prime Minister Modi had mentioned in a blog that he has been fasting during Navratri for 35 years. In the year 2014, when US President Barack Obama had hosted a grand dinner during PM Modi's US visit, the latter only drank lemonade, as he was on his 9-day Navratra fast. (With inputs from ANI)
