A landslide happened on a road in Chamba, Uttarakhand's Tehri district on Monday, raising concerns that people and vehicles might be trapped beneath the rubble, news agency PTI reported. According to authorities, two ladies and a four-month-old infant were crushed to death after being hit by a large landslip in Chamba, Uttarakhand's Tehri district, on Monday. According to Tehri Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar, their remains were discovered in a vehicle trapped beneath the landslip material.


More vehicles might be trapped as a result of the landslip, which damaged a taxi stand near the Chamba police station, he added, adding that a search-and-rescue effort was underway.


Poonam Khanduri, her four-month-old son, and her sister-in-law Saraswati Devi were among those killed.


The SDRF raced to the scene and began a search and rescue effort. 


The New Tehri-Chamba vehicle route has been closed due to a landslip near the Chamba Police Station. The debris mound is being excavated in search of anyone who could be trapped inside. The SDRF has sent JCBs to the scene to conduct search and rescue efforts.

Mayur Dikshit, District Magistrate, Navneet Bhullar, Senior Superintendent of Police, and Manish Kumar, Chief Development Officer, are also present.


IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert In 5 Uttarakhand Districts


The Indian Meteorological Department issued an 'orange alert' for severe to very heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from August 22-24, as well as a 'yellow alert' for heavy rain on August 21 (today) in both states. Because of the constant rain, the hill states have suffered severe destruction and fatalities in recent months.

Uttarakhand has been devastated by heavy rains, which have caused landslides and flash floods in numerous areas.


The Uttarakhand Weather Department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for five districts: Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Bageshwar.



For today and tomorrow, the Weather Service has issued an orange advisory for these regions. According to the meteorological service, there is a chance of light to moderate rain in other regions as well.
