After the Air India pee-gate scandal triggered a massive controversy and new developments flashed on TV screen for days at end, a similar incident was reported on the Akal Takht Express between Amritsar and Kolkata where a drunk ticket checker allegedly urinated on a woman passenger.
The accused, identified as Munna Kumar of Bihar, allegedly urinated on a woman travelling with her husband. The woman was sleeping when the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) urinated on her.
The woman woke up and raised the alarm and her husband managed to grab the TTE, news agency IANS reported.
Other passengers also woke up and thrashed the TTE after which they handed him over to the Government Railway Police (GRP).
The TTE was detained by GRP and taken into custody. "Taking immediate cognizance by GRP Charbagh, on the pointers of the plaintiff, accused Munna Kumar, a resident of Bijulia village in Bihar's Begusarai district, was arrested and sent to jail in judicial custody," the GRP said in a statement. He was also removed from his job and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has ordered the strictest action against the accused.
Navratna Gautam, in charge of GRP Charbagh railway station, said that the action was taken on the complaint of passenger Rajesh, an Amritsar resident whose wife faced the ordeal.
A similar incident occurred on a flight a few months ago when a man who was intoxicated allegedly urinated on the woman seated next to him. Afterwards, Shankar Mishra, an Indian working in America, was detained and given a 4-month ban from flying on Air India aircraft.
Another recent incident had a drunk man urinating on a passenger sitting next to him on an American Airlines trip from New York to Delhi. Following that, the traveller was arrested at IGI Airport.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) DG Arun Kumar has said the most embarrassing time for Indian aviation was the urination incident at Air India, reported news agency ANI. According to DGCA chief Arun Kumar, "Two incidents of Air India were more embarrassing but not dangerous but we have taken action against them also." “Such incidents are very rarely reported and if this is happening and the matter is reported with us (DGCA), we are taking action against them,” he added.
