New Delhi: Barjinder Singh Parwana, the main accused, and eight others have been arrested in connection with the violence in Punjab’s Patiala city.


According to ABP News sources, those arrested include Harish Singhla, Jaddi Pandit, Shankar Bharadwaj and Kuldeep Singh.


Who Is Barjinder Singh Parwana?


Parwana, a resident of Rajpura, lives in Gobind Singh Nagar near Gagan Chowk. He is a self-styled chief of the Damdami Taksal Jatha in Rajpura.


Parwana went to Singapore in 2007 and spent 17 to 18 months there. After returning from Singapore, he started delivering religious discourses and started the Damdami Taksal Jatha in Rajpura.


Parwana currently has four FIRs lodged against him.


The first case was registered against him at the Banur Police Station earlier in 2016.  The case was registered on charges of murder under the SC/ST Act.

The second case was registered against Parwana at Patiala’s Sadar Police Station on charges of disturbing government duty.


The third case was registered against him at the Lahori Gate Police Station in Patiala on  allegations of murder and violation of the Disaster Management Act.


The fourth was registered at Mohali’s Balongi Police Station under the Arms Act.


Parwana, who continues to participate in protests against Sikhism, often makes provocative statements on social media to stay in the headlines.


Two groups clashed during an anti-Khalistan rally taken out by the local Shiv Sena leaders in Patiala earlier on April 29.


Stones were hurled and swords were brandished during the clashes, which took place near Kali Mata temple in Patiala.
