The woman, who was travelling with her husband as part of a pilgrimage group, experienced severe chest pain while the flight was over Chennai airspace, reported PTI. Pilots immediately sought permission for an emergency landing, and the aircraft touched down at Chennai Airport around 2 PM.

A medical team was on standby to assist upon landing. However, doctors who examined the passenger confirmed that she had passed away mid-flight. Her body was later shifted to a government hospital in Chromepet for further procedures.

Her husband is expected to fly back to Malaysia on Saturday along with her mortal remains, as per the report.

Following the medical emergency, the flight resumed its journey to Kuala Lumpur at approximately 4:30 PM with 214 passengers onboard.

Meanwhile, dense fog continues to disrupt flight operations at Chennai Airport, causing significant inconvenience to passengers. Between 7 AM and 10 AM, thick fog led to multiple flight diversions to Bengaluru and Hyderabad while several planes were forced to hover mid-air.
