Parliament's Winter Session, which began on December 7, is likely to end on Friday. The session featured intense arguments about China's transgressions in Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, with the Opposition taking on the Centre over the absence of a discussion on the topic and considering it a "national concern".
The session also saw the adoption of revisions to the Constitution Scheduled Tribes (Order), 1950, among other things. Other Bills that were passed include the Wild Life Amendment (Protection) Bill, 2021, the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022, and the Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill, 2019.
On Thursday, Parliament passed a bill to add 'Betta-Kuruba' and 'Kadu Kuruba' to Karnataka's list of Scheduled Tribes.
On Thursday, the Rajya Sabha passed the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2022 by voice vote. The measure, introduced in the Upper House by Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda, was passed by the Lok Sabha on December 19.
According to Rajya Sabha, there were 22,238 complaints and second appeals pending with the Central Information Commission (CIC) as of December 15, 2022.
In response to a written question, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh stated that 20,756 complaints and second appeals submitted under the Right to Information (RTI) Act were resolved during the fiscal year 2022-23, which ended on December 15. During that time, the CIC has recorded 13,472 such incidents, he added.
"The CIC is working to accelerate the resolution of ongoing cases by utilising technology tools for efficient case hearings. This has greatly decreased the pendency," added the minister.
Following the recent spike of instances in China and other parts of the world, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Thursday that the government was keeping a watch on the worldwide Covid issue. In a speech to the Lok Sabha, he advised people to be more vigilant and to take preventative measures like as wearing masks and keeping social distance. He also stated that efforts such as random RT-PCR testing of overseas passengers in airports had commenced. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Speakers of both Houses, and numerous other MPs were spotted wearing face masks in Parliament today.
