Lok Sabha Secretariat issues circular for MPs Thomas Chazhikadan and AM Ariff who were suspended from the House today, barring them from entering the Parliament chamber, lobby and galleries, ANI reported. The circular reads that they are not entitled to a daily allowance for the period of suspension, if suspended from the House for the remainder of session.
Rajya Sabha passed the Provisional Collection of Taxes Bill, 2023 to provide for the immediate effect for a limited period of provisions in Bills relating to the imposition or increase of duties of customs or excise. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on December 19.
Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been adjourned for the day.

The Lok Sabha passed three revised criminal Bills seeking to replace IPC, CrPC and Indian Evidence Act.
"Now the accused will get seven days to file a plea for acquittal...The judge has to hold the hearing in those seven days and in a maximum time of 120 days, the case would come to trial. There was no time limit for plea bargaining earlier. Now if one accepts their crime within 30 days of the crime then the punishment would be less...There was no provision to present documents during trials. We have made it compulsory to produce all documents within 30 days. No delays will be made in that," Amit Shah said in Lok Sabha.
"This is just to divert the attention from the issues of unemployment and Parliament security breach. I am surprised that everyone's conscience has awakened on the issue of 'mock Parliament', but the abuses given on the floor of Lok Sabha could not awake anyone's conscience," MP Danish Ali told PTI.
"If 50-60 MPs snatch away rights of 543 in Lok Sabha they deserve to be suspended," PTI quoted BJP MP Manoj Tiwari as saying.
"We said that in Ayodhya we will make Ram Mandir as soon as possible and on January 22 Lord Ram's idol will be installed there. This is PM Modi's government which delivers what they say. We said that we would give 33% reservation to women in the Parliament and assemblies. "The Government has created a new category of Ex-Agniveer in the recruitment to the post of Constable (General Duty)/ Rifleman in Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles (CAPFs & AR) with some exceptions", MoS Home Nityanand Rai said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
In a written reply in Lok Sabha, MoS Home Nityanand Rai says that there is no increasing trend of suicides by CRPF personnel during the last three years. From year 2020 to 2023, 206 CRPF personnel committed suicide.
MoS Home Nityanand Rai tells Lok Sabha: "In the last two years, no incident of fratricide has taken place in CRPF. The no. of incidents in CRPF from 2018 to 2023 is 14 and no. of deaths during the same period is 17."

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar took exception to the episode of TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee mimicking him earlier in the day while the suspended MPs staged a protest outside the Parliament building.
As the House reconvened at 12 noon after being adjourned, Dhankhar took note of the incident and said, "Office of Chairman, Rajya Sabha and Office of Speaker is very different. Political parties will have their cross currents, they will have exchanges, but imagine a senior leader of your party, video graphing another member of another party. Mimicry of the Chairman, mimicry of Speaker. How ridiculous, how shameful, how unacceptable."
At BJP Parliamentary Board Meeting, PM Narendra Modi said, "In the coming days, no matter whether others are participating or not, we must participate in the parliament," quoting sources as saying.
"Some of the Bills which are to be taken up are of great importance. We should listen to discussion on them. It would have been good if the opposition would have participated in debates on them. But perhaps good deeds are not in their fortune," PM Modi said further.
The proceedings of the Lok Sabha have been adjourned till 12:30 pm as opposition MPs protests over Parliament security breach, demand for revocation of suspension of lawmakers.
"Do they want an Opposition-less Parliament? Is this what they are working towards," says Congress MP Karti Chidambaram on suspension of 92 Opposition MPs.

Floor leaders from opposition parties including NCP's Sharad Pawar and Congress' Mallikarjun Kharge staged a protest in front of Gandhi Statue on Parliament premises, after the suspension of 92 MPs for the remainder of the ongoing winter session.
"We are protesting, we will see what the Chairman decides. We have only been demanding the Home minister to give a statement inside the House. I don't know why he is not ready for it," Kharge said.
On the suspension of 78 opposition MPs from Parliament, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP Mahua Maji says: "The opposition was only demanding that the Union Home minister or the PM should speak in the House about it (Lok Sabha security breach). They should have at least informed the members about the probe which is being conducted. It appears that the government doesn't want the opposition to be in the House."

Both the Houses of the Parliament on Monday witnessed a stormy session after a total of 78 MPs from the opposition parties were suspended from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for unruly behaviour and disregarding the directions of the Chair.
As the proceedings started for the day, the lawmakers from opposition parties created a ruckus demanding a discussion on the Parliament security breach incident.
After adjourning the House, the MPs were suspended in the afternoon which included 45 MPs from the opposition's I.N.D.I.A bloc that has a strength of 95 MPs. Following the suspension, the I.N.D.I.A bloc lost almost half of its strength in Rajya Sabha and one-third in Lok Sabha. Out of 133 MPs in Lok Sabha, 46 oppposition MPs stand suspended.
Among the floor leaders suspended in Rajya Sabha include Trinamool Congress' Derek O'Brien and deputy leader Sukhendu Sekhar Ray; Rashtriya Janata Dal floor leader Manoj Kumar Jha; Samajwadi Party's leader in the house Ram Gopal Yadav; Janata Dal (United) floor leader Ram Nath Thakur; Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Mahua Maji; Kerala Congress (M) floor leader Jose K Mani and Communist Party of India leader in house Binoy Viswam.
Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and deputy leader Gaurav Gogoi have been suspended and so are their chief whip K Suresh and whip Manickam Tagore.
Several other floor leaders who were suspended from the lower house included T R Baalu of the DMK, P R Natarajan of CPI-M, E T Mohammed Basheer of the IUML, N K Premachandran of the RSP; Kalyan Banerjee of the TMC.
Other senior leaders dismissed from the House include Rajamohan Unnithan, Su. Thirunavukkarasar, K Muraleedharan, Anto Antony and Amar Singh (all from Congress) and Aparupa Poddar, Prasun Banerjee, Sougata Ray, Satabdi Ray, Protima Mondal, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Asit Kumar Mal, and Sunil Kumar Mondal (all from TMC).
