New Delhi: In a veiled attack on the Opposition members for creating ruckus in the House over the Parliament security breach issue, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said that it is very unfortunate that some MPs are “indirectly supporting” the lapse. He said it should be noted that the incident happened on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack and slammed the Opposition for making it look like an ordinary security breach.

Commending the security personnel, he said it was because of them that the intruders could not carry bombs and guns, and could only manage to take “harmless” objects.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Tiwari said, “This is very unfortunate that some MPs are indirectly supporting the security breach in the Parliament. They might have forgotten that the incident happened on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack and they are trying to make it look like an ordinary security lapse. It is a win on the part of the security forces that the accused could not carry guns and bombs inside and could only manage to take harmless objects.”

“But sympathising with the accused clearly proves that there must be some involvement of the Congress or the I.N.D.I.A bloc members,” he added.

Criticising the Congress for staging protests over the issue, BJP leader Nishikant Dubey said the politics of Opposition and Congress is a “shameful act”.

Taking to X, he wrote, “On 5 May 1994, a identifying himself as Prempal jumped from the audience gallery of the Lok Sabha and ran towards the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao. However, BJP did not demand the resignation of the Lok Sabha Speaker. Also, the names of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister were not flagged because the security of the Parliament is the responsibility of the Lok Sabha Secretariat. Shame on Congress. Bad politics is not good.”

"The security of Lok Sabha is the responsibility of Lok Sabha Secretariat, not the government....Why will Home Minister give an answer on this? Three important Bills were supposed to be tabled in Lok Sabha today but Congress is not letting the House function," Dubey told ANI.

Reacting to Dubey’s tweet, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said before raking up history, the BJP leader should note that national security is the government’s primary responsibility.

Speaking to ANI, she said, “All I would like to say is that before digging up history, note that it was your responsibility. National security is not a matter of politics. I think more than the Opposition, it is the ruling side who should say that they will come and give clarification and make rectifications to the loopholes. Who is stopping you? You have the majority in Lok Sabha, you have the numbers in Rajya Sabha too. Come and answer to the people of the country.”

BJD MP Pinaki Misra said it is very easy to pin the blame on Opposition and accuse it of doing politics over the issue but had an Opposition MP signed the visitors’ pass for the intruders, then the government would have made a hue and cry about it.

“This is a serious attack on the Parliament and it is very easy to accuse the Opposition of doing politics on this. God forbid, if any Opposition MP had signed the passes for these accused, the government would have gone absolutely ballistic… Opposition is rightly and justifiably asking for some accountability… The government till now has been hiding behind the Speaker’s chair and has put the entire responsibility on the Speaker’s shoulders,” Misra told ANI.
