A court in Delhi granted 45 days more to the Delhi Police to complete its probe in the Parliament security breach case, reported ANI. The court gave the permission after the Special Cell of the Delhi Police moved Patiala House Court on Thursday with an application seeking 90 days to complete the investigation in the case.
While moving the application before the court, special public prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh said that the case is sensitive and certain reports are awaited, adding that digital data is also voluminous.
Additional sessions judge Hardeep Kaur noted the submission and issued a notice to all the accused and fixed the matter for March 11, 2024, as per an ANI report.
Earlier, the court dismissed the bail plea moved by one of the accused Neelam Azad saying that "considering the nature and seriousness of allegations leveled against the applicant /accused and the initial stage of investigation, I do not find it to be a fit case to release the applicant/accused on bail. The present bail application stands dismissed."
In its observation, the court noted that the FIR registered in the present case has been registered under sections 186, 353, 452, 153, 34, 120B of the Indian Penal Code read with sections 16, 18 of UAPA and that the investigation is currently at a nascent stage. The court also said that the allegations against the applicant/accused are serious as she is alleged to be involved in disrupting the sovereignty and integrity of India along with other co-accused persons.
The Delhi Police had stated that the material, evidence, and other documentary evidence show her complicity in the offence and thus, disentitle her to be released on bail.
The police also submitted during the arguments on January 16 that prima facie there are reasonable grounds against the accused person which negate the enlargement on bail.
