Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said if PM Modi could go to Rajasthan to give "political speeches", he could definitely come to Parliament and speak on Manipur.


"The House is functioning. We are demanding that the PM come there and make a statement. But he is giving political speeches and campaigning in Rajasthan. When he can go there, can't he come to the House for half an hour and make a statement? It means that has no interest, no faith in democracy. Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 2 pm amid continued sloganeering by Opposition MPs, who are demanding discussion on Manipur issue in the presence of PM Modi. The Opposition MPs of INDIA Alliance arrived in Parliament on Thursday wearing black clothes.


AAP MP Raghav Chadha said, "Today the MPs of INDIA alliance have decided that to oppose the atrocities on the people of Manipur and the barbarism going on there, we will wear black clothes and go to the Parliament today. This will be a symbolic protest to give a message that we stand with the people of Manipur in this hour of grief. We will try to make the Govt realise that an integral part of this country, Manipur is burning. We urge the Govt to save Manipur and shoulder their Constitutional duty...The State Govt of the day should be dissolved and the CM should be unceremoniously sacked."

Our Black Clothes Protest Is Against Arrogance Of PM Modi, Says Congress' Gaurav Gogoi

With no end in sight to the Manipur logjam in Parliament, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said the Opposition MPs' black clothes protest were against the arrogance of the PM.


"PM is rubbing salt to the wounds of the people of Manipur. At a time when we are saying that he should go to Manipur and work in the interest of national security, he is giving speeches here. For the first time in India's history, we have a PM who is busy giving speeches when a corner of the country is burning...Our black clothes are against the arrogance of the PM. When the country is burning and Manipur is divided, he is bothered only about his own image," Gogoi said.

Wearing Black Clothes Will Serve No Purpose, People Have Faith In PM Modi: Pralhad Joshi

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said moving no-confidence motion and wearing black clothes will serve no purpose for the Opposition and people will show the credibility of PM Modi in 2024 polls. Joshi said in future too, the Opposition MPs would have to roam around wearing black clothes.


"PM Modi had said that they (Opposition) can bring no-confidence motion in 2023 once again. They have come prepared. But there is a little divide there. Congress party, as per its usual attitude, did not consult the other Opposition parties. First, there should be confidence among Opposition parties, among each other. After that, they can talk about people's confidence in PM Modi," ANI quoted Joshi as saying.

Today, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur is slated to move the Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, 2023, in the Rajya Sabha for its consideration and passage to amend the Cinematograph Act, 1952.

Parliament Monsoon Session HIGHLIGHTS: The Monsoon session of Parliament began on July 20 and will continue till August 11. The session is crucial as the BJP and opposition have sharpened attacks on each other as they gear up for a host of assembly polls this year and the Lok Sabha elections next year. Meanwhile, the session witnessed a stormy start, with the Manipur situation leading to ruckus and adjournments.


While the Opposition INDIA alliance has stuck to their demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the ethnic violence in Manipur, the BJP MPs sought a discussion on the alleged atrocities against women in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal as well. 


The Congress party has issued a whip for its Lok Sabha MPs to be present on Wednesday. The development comes amid the reports that Opposition parties, including Congress, will move a no-confidence motion against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government. The Opposition parties have been stalling the proceedings of Parliament since the start of the Monsoon session on July 20. 


Countrywide outrage erupted after a video went viral on social media in which a mob was seen parading two tribal women naked in Manipur's Kangpokpi on May 4, a day after ethnic violence broke out between majority Meiteis and tribal Kukis over Meiteis' demand for inclusion in Scheduled Tribes (ST) list. 


Ahead of the Wednesday session of the Lok Sabha, a Congress Parliamentary Party meeting has been called by the party at 10:30 am at Parliamentary Party office.


The decision to bring the no-confidence motion against the ruling BJP was taken at a meeting of like-minded Opposition floor leaders at the chamber of Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge in Parliament, sources told ABP News. 


On Tuesday, amid sloganeering by Opposition party members, the Lok Sabha passed the Multi-State Co-operatives Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2022, which seeks to strengthen cooperatives by making them transparent and introducing a system of regular elections.
