Background

Hello and welcome to the live blog on the second part of Parliament's Budget Session.

The third week of the second leg of Parliament's Budget session began on Monday. The last two weeks witnessed massive uproar in both Houses over Rahul Gandhi's speech in London and Opposition's demand for a JPC probe on the Adani-Hindenburg issue.

The Congress party will launch "Jai Bharat Satyagraha" on Wednesday to protest the conviction and disqualification of Rahul Gandhi, and to express its resolve to keep raising the people's voices against the loot of the people's money and nation's wealth, the party said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha Housing Committee on Monday issued a notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asking him to vacate his official bungalow by April 22.

Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP last week which was followed by huge protests by the Congress party. The issue is likely to take Centre stage on the floor as well apart from the ongoing demand for a JPC on the Adani issue.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday changed his Twitter bio to "Dis'qualified MP" after his removal from Lok Sabha following his conviction in the 2019 defamation case. A Surat court on Thursday last week pronounced two years of jail for the party leader in the four-year-old criminal case over the 'Modi surname' remark.

Last week on Friday, amid massive protests in several states by government employees demanding restoration of the old pension scheme, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said the Centre would form a committee to look into issues related to pension, ANI reported.

While moving the Finance Bill 2023 in the Lok Sabha for consideration and passage, Sitharaman said representations were received that the national pension system for government employees needs to be improved.

"I propose to set up a committee under the finance secretary to look into this issue of pension and evolve an approach which addresses the need of employees while maintaining fiscal prudence to protect the common citizens. The approach will be designed for adoption by both central and state governments," the Finance Minister said.

On Thursday, the Members of Parliament belonging to opposition parties on Thursday held a protest march demanding a JPC inquiry into the Adani Group issue. During the protest, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lashed out at the Narendra Modi-led government and said that this dictatorial govt doesn't believe in discussion or democracy.

On Tuesday, the Opposition unfurled a huge banner with the image of Gautam Adani, while demanding the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe the Adani issue.
