Former Punjab chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) patriarch Parkash Singh Badal passed away on Tuesday (April 25) at the age of 95. The 95-year-old veteran politician was admitted to Mohali's Fortis Hospital more than a week ago after complaining of breathing difficulties. The five-time Punjab chief minister was hospitalised in June of last year as well, with complaints of gastritis and bronchial asthma.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other political leaders took to Twitter to express their condolences on the death of the SAD patron. The prime minister recalled Punjab's former chief minister's tireless efforts to keep the state afloat during difficult times.
