Mufti Shah Mir, the man accused of helping Pakistan’s ISI in kidnapping the Indian businessman and former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav from Iran, was shot dead on Friday by unidentified people in Balochistan.
According to Dawn, police said that the armed men targeted the religious scholar when he was coming out after performing the night prayer. It further said that the Mir was immediately shifted to Turbat hospital.
“Armed men riding motorcycles opened fire on Mufti Shah Mir, leaving him seriously injured,” police said, adding he was immediately shifted to Turbat hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to the report, the deceased received several bullet injuries that led to his death. Mir was close to JUI-F. Earlier, he survived two attempts on his life.
The attack on Mufti came days after two leaders of JUI-F were shot dead in Khuzdar.
Mir, a human and arms trafficker, operated under the cover of a mufti scholar. He was also a member of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, an Islamic fundamentalist political party.
According to TOI, Mir is also suspected to have been gunned down by ISI operatives in what is believed to be an internal conflict brewing for some time. Last week, Wadera Ghulam Sarwar and Molvi Amanullah, both from JUI-F, were shot dead by bike-borne assailants in what the local police described as targeted killings.
"He was providing intelligence about Baloch fighters to the Pak army. In 2023, a teacher named Abdul Rauf was murdered over alleged blasphemy in Turbat. The killing was carried out on the instructions of Mir," a source said as quoted by TOI.
