Jammu: Pakistani Rangers intermittently for 90 minutes fired at least 27 mortar shells targeting BSF posts at Arnia and Ramgarh Sector, reports said on Monday.  The heavy mortar shelling began at 8 am. A team of ABP News covering the incident were taken to  a secured sport by army officials as blowing of shells gave rise to plumes to smoke. The visuals from the affected zone below depict how perilous it is for locals to reside as the flash-point between the two neighbouring has flared up. A day earlier, the Rangers had pusillanimously appealed to the Indian counterparts to stop firing after suffering several casualties but resumed unprovoked firing and shelling in the wee hours of Monday along the International Border (IB) in Samba district.

Six persons, including a woman and a special police officer (SPO), were injured in the attacks. According to news agency PTI, BSF troops guarding the border retaliated and the heavy exchange of fire between the two sides was going on when last reports came in.

Worried locals started migrating to safer places as the firing has did not come to a halt till afternoon.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has reacted to Pakistan Army chief Gen. Asif Bajwa's desire for peace and prosperity between the two nuclear nations through military co-operation. "Any comment on wanting peace will be taken very seriously," she said on the sidelines of an event.

The state has witnessed a spurt in Pakistani shelling and firing along the IB and the Line of Control (LoC) this year.

Agency reports say over 700 such incidents have been reported this year, which have left 38 people, including 18 security personnel, dead and scores injured.
