Union Home minister Amit Shah in a meeting of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Tuesday emphasised on the need of strengthening the organisation by focusing on the 144 seats the party lost in the 2019 general elections. He said that the party during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections needs to win at least 50 percent of the seats it lost in the previous elections, reported ABP News, citing sources. Shah also asked the leaders to pay special attention to the Lok Sabha seats BJP lost in Bihar.

Over 25 Union ministers, including Bhupender Yadav, Giriraj Singh, Smriti Irani, Parshottam Rupala and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Amit Shah also expressed his displeasure towards those who failed to visit the assemblies and carry out the assessment work. He urged the leaders to complete the programme and said the work of "Sangathan" is primarily important.

"Sangathan hai toh sarkar hai aur sangathan sabse bada hai (If there is organisation we can form the government. Organisation is supreme)," said, Shah as reported by News18 website.

“Modi ji ke naam par to jeetete hain, har seat jeet jayenge, par sangathan agar zameen par mazboot nahi hota to uska nuksan hota hai (We win seats in PM Modi’s name but if the organisation is weak, we will suffer on the ground)," he said further.

During the review it was found that only 32 ministers had visited the constituencies and done some ground work, reported ABP News. The second phase of the meeting is likely to be held between October and January where similar issues are expected to be discussed.

According to the report submitted by BJP leaders in the meet, the party seems to be gaining in most of the 144 seats, particularly in the states of Telangana, West Bengal and Odisha, ABP News reported

With the general elections just two years away, the BJP is trying to strengthen its hold on the 144 seats across the country. Designated union ministers have been given charge of a cluster of each constituencies to study the ground reality and improve the chances of BJP here.

The saffron party has also drawn a detailed blueprint on these constituencies, which include information on religion, caste, geography, inclination of voters and the reasons behind it.
