Opposition Leaders Submit Notices To Move Statutory Resolution In Lok Sabha Against Delhi Services Ordinance
As per the Lok Sabha bulletin dated July 18, the notices on the resolution moved by Chowdhury, Raja, Roy, N K Premchandran of RSP and Dean Kuriakose have been admitted.
New Delhi: Ahead of Parliament's monsoon session, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has admitted the submission of notices by various opposition leaders, including Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from Congress, Saugata Roy from TMC, and A Raja from DMK, to move a statutory resolution against the Delhi services ordinance.
As per the Lok Sabha bulletin dated July 18, the notices on the resolution moved by Chowdhury, Raja, Roy, N K Premchandran of RSP and Dean Kuriakose have been admitted.
The agency stated that whenever the government moves a bill during a Parliament session to replace an ordinance, opposition members move a statutory resolution opposing the measure.
Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is opposing the ordinance on the transfer and posting of bureaucrats in Delhi brought by the Centre in May, virtually negating a Supreme Court verdict giving the elected government in Delhi the control over services matter.
The Delhi Ordinance was a major roadblock in the formation of the united Opposition, with Delhi CM AAP demanding that Congress denounce the Centre's move to control administrative services in the Union Territory. However, the Congress finally relented and supported the AAP, along with other Opposition parties, in its demand.
The Congress has made it clear that it will not back the ordinance and will oppose any attempt of the central government to "sabotage federalism" in the country.
The Centre has listed the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill among the 31 proposals that will be taken up for discussion in 17 sittings till the end of the monsoon session on August 11.
The monsoon session is expected to be stormy with the BJP and opposition parties sharpening attacks on each other as they gear up for a host of assembly polls this year and the Lok Sabha elections next year. Manipur crisis and ordinance over control of services in Delhi are likely to be the key issues of discussion apart from inflation and alleged misuse of investigative agencies.
