Leh: To commemorate the 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas and the commencement of Rajat Jayanti of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Indian Army undertook a Motorcycle Expedition from Kohima to Kargil that culminated on Saturday. The expedition reached Kargil War Memorial at Dras, wherein it was flagged off by Major General Sachin Malik, Yudh Seva Medal General Officer Commanding, Forever in Operations Division. He along with the team members paid homage to the Bravehearts who had made the supreme sacrifice during the ‘Battle of Mashkoh’ in Operation Vijay.
The expedition, which commenced on July 2, traversed across 3700 kilometres of mesmerising and challenging landscapes, of the country’s Northern Borders, from North East India to North India.
Major General Sachin Malik also interacted with the team members and commended their grit and determination in undertaking the arduous journey.
The event was heralded by a collection of the sacred soil of the fallen bravehearts from the battlefields of Drass to be offered to their families at their home towns, across eight states and two Union territories. The expedition from Kohima halted at Dimapur, Rangia, Hashimara, Sukhna, Danapur, Varanasi, Lucknow, Delhi, and Chandigarh before travelling through Udhampur and Srinagar.

The expedition was the first of its kind, aimed at connecting the two extremities of our nation from North East to Ladakh, harnessing the collective resolve of our troops hailing from areas along the Northern Borders towards defending the integrity of the Nation.
The team also interacted with all sections of society highlighting the role of the Indian Army in nation-building, motivating the youth to join Indian Army, and addressing the grievances of our Veterans and Veer Naris.
