New Delhi: MLA Purna Chandra Swain of the ruling Biju Janata Dal was among the 5,233 students who cleared the Class 10 matriculation examination held on offline mode by the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha.


Swain, the BJD lawmaker from Surada in Ganjam district, passed the examination at the age of 49.

The MLA passed the examination with a B2 grade by securing 340 out of 500 marks in the examination. He appeared for the exam at Surada Girls High School in Bhanjanagar of Ganjam district. He was given an isolated room in view of his health issues. 


As per his mark sheet, Swain secured the highest 85 in painting and scored over 60 percent marks in Odia and Social Science.


Swain had tried to appear for the exam in the past but failed to do so because of his political commitments and social activities. 


The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha conducted an offline mode between July 30, 2021 and August 5, 2021 at 504 centers across the state. While 5,233 students passed the examination comprised of 3,100 males and 2,133 female candidates, however, 141 failed to clear the examination. These candidates had appeared in the offline examination after rejecting the results declared by the board on the online mode owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
