The northeast monsoon is set to withdraw by January 15, 2025 in Tamil Nadu leading to predominantly dry weather across many parts of South India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the cyclonic circulation over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal at 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked.
Tamil Nadu Weather
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai forecast light to moderate rain at isolated locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with mist or haze likely in certain areas during the early morning hours. Additionally, ground frost warnings were issued for higher hill ranges in the Nilgiris and Kodaikanal during nighttime.
In Chennai, light rain is anticipated in a few areas, and mist or haze is expected to prevail during early morning hours.
Kerala Weather
In Kerala, northeasterly and easterly winds dominate the lower tropospheric levels. The cyclonic circulation over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and southwest Bay of Bengal has subsided, according to the IMD.
IMD said: "No Large Change in minimum temperature over Kerala during the past 24 hours. However it was appreciably above normal in Palakkad district, above normal in Kannur & Thrissur districts and it remained normal elsewhere over Kerala. Punalur recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 19.6°C."
Rain or thundershowers are likely in a few places in Lakshadweep and at isolated locations in Kerala.
Karnataka Weather
The northeast monsoon remains weak over South Interior Karnataka resulting in dry conditions across the state. On January 3, the IMD forecast dry weather with shallow fog or mist at isolated places in Interior Karnataka.
In Bengaluru, IMD said, "Mainly clear sky. Fog/Mist likely in early morning hours in some areas. Maximum & Minimum temperatures very likely to be around 27°C and 15°C respectively."
Telangana Weather
Telangana continues to experience low-level northerly and northeasterly winds. The IMD has not indicated any significant changes in the weather pattern for the state.
