Srinagar (J&K): Former state chief minister Mehbooba Mufti condemned the "gruesome terror attack"in which over 18 CRPF jawans were killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Thursday afternoon.

Calling the news "disturbing" on Twitter, Mehbooba said no words were enough to condemn the attack.

"How many  more lives will be snuffed out before this madness ends,"she asked.

Pakistan-based Jaish-E-Mohammed has claimed responsibility for the attack whose terrorists  detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) and opened fire at their vehicle on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Awantipura.

The cowardly attack took place at Lechpora, about 30 km from Srinagar.

Reports said the death toll could rise as some of the injured Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were in a serious condition.
