NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid on Monday rubbished a statement ascribed to him that pictures of the Batla House encounter of 2008 had brought tears to the eyes of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Khurshid, who was speaking at ABP News' 'Shikhar Sammelan', said it was wrong to say that Gandhi cried over Batla House encounter.

"I never said that. In fact, I was misquoted. There was a difference between what I had said and what the media projected. I had said that the then Congress President didn't wish to see visuals of an encounter," Khurshid said, adding that it was not because Gandhi had sympathy for them but because such images are "painful" in nature for all of us.

The Batla House encounter, as it had become known, had taken place on September 19, 2008, in which two suspected terrorists were killed and two other suspects arrested.
