Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma took to Twitter to clarify that the state has no shortage of fuel after the Assam Mazdur Petroleum Unit announced the halt of oil supplies to the state. The CM also appealed to citizens to not resort to panic buying of essentials.
He said, “There is no shortage of petrol and diesel in Meghalaya. Necessary actions have been initiated by the Government to ensure no shortage of stocks and supply. Request all citizens to not resort to panic buying of any essentials.”
Reiterating the same through a press release, the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills said that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel in the district.

“In view of rumours of shortage of petrol and diesel in the state, which has led to long queues at various petroleum outlets, the general public is hereby informed that there is no such shortage of petrol or diesel in the district at present,” the release said.
Earlier, the Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union stopped the transportation of fuel to Meghalaya after the firing incident along the Assam-Meghalaya border that killed six people. The Union sent letters to PSU oil marketing companies informing them of their decision to not load fuel in tankers.
"It has been brought to our notice that in Meghalaya mainly Ri-Bhoi, Khasi Hills & Jaintia Hills districts the situation remains abnormal. Our members are afraid to go to the above-mentioned area for supplying petroleum products," the Union said in the letter.
Six individuals were reportedly killed and several more were wounded following an alleged altercation on Tuesday afternoon between locals and a group made up of Assamese police and forest guards. The reported altercation allegedly took place near the West Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya and the West Karbi Anglong region of Assam. An Assamese forest guard was one of those who died.
