New Delhi: NTPC has responded to the Delhi Government's allegations of power shortage. According to NTPC, the Delhi government is talking about shortages but in reality, Delhi companies are buying only 70% of the power produced, while the remaining 30% is purchased by companies not based in Delhi.
NTPC said that Delhi companies have not been buying power from their Dadri plant since November 2020. The Delhi government had alleged that NTPC was supplying Delhi only 50% of the power needed.
So what did NTPC say in their statement?
NTPC said, "There is no power shortage in Delhi. Delhi companies are buying only 70% of the power NTPC manufactures. No Delhi-based company has purchased power from the Dadri plant since November 2020. Delhi has a reserved supply quota of 756 MW of electricity from the Dadri plant. However, they are not buying electricity even after it being provided at a concessional rate of Rs. 3.2/unit.
What were the allegations made by the Delhi Government?
Delhi government minister Satyendra Jain had earlier said that power plants aren't able to produce enough electricity due to the coal crisis. ''Delhi buys power from coal-based power plants based in neighbouring states but these states are now not able to produce electricity due to coal crisis,'' Jain said.
''National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) is to provide 3,500 MW of power to Delhi under the procurement agreement but only 1,750 MW of power is being supplied, which is half of the agreed amount.'' the Power Minister claimed.
