'No Need To Panic': Union Minister RK Singh Rubbishes Power Crisis Claims, Pulls Up Delhi CM Kejriwal & Congress

“The panic was created because the CMD of GAIL has sent a message to Bawana gas power plant that it will stop supplying gas after 2 days because their contract was about to expire,” Singh told ANI.

New Delhi: Rubbishing claims of power crisis in the country, Union Power Minister R.K. Singh on Sunday said there is no need to panic and added there is enough coal reserve for power production.

The bureaucrat-turned-politician said this “panic was unnecessarily created” without any reason.

“The panic was created because the CMD of GAIL has sent a message to Bawana gas power plant that it will stop supplying gas after 2 days because their contract was about to expire,” Singh told ANI.

“I’ve asked GAIL CMD, who participated in today's meeting, to continue the required supplies and warn both DISCOM CEO and GAIL CMD that such a thing should not repeat and if such irresponsible behaviors happen then we will take action,” he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Arrah also lashed out at the Congress over its remarks on the reported coal shortage.

“They do not have issues, create any issue so trying to create issues but we are supplying as much power as need and we will continue to do so, there should be no doubt, tell us we give as much power as to where they won't tell me, this is unnecessary politics,” Singh said.

“This Congress party's wind that has gone slowly dying out, they don't have any issue, that's why they create an issue,” he added.

The Union Power Minister also took potshots at Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal.

“And as far as Kejriwal's question is concerned, they don't even know if there is any problem then know from the Power Ministry or tell us,” Singh said.

Kejriwal has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to intervene and ensure adequate supply of coal to thermal power plants providing electricity to Delhi.

“We have an average coal reserve (at power stations) that can last for more than 4 days. The stock is replenished every day. I am in touch with Pralhad Joshi,” Singh told reporters on the power crisis issue.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi said the “thermal power plants have rolling stock being replenished with daily supply”.

“With withdrawal of monsoon, coal dispatches are set to rise in coming days, increasing coal stocks. Reiterating, there's sufficient coal stock, don't fall for fear-mongering,” he added, ANI reported.
