New Delhi: After a marathon debate in the Lok Sabha on Friday, the no-confidence motion against the BJP-led NDA government was defeated as 325 lawmakers voted against the motion while 126 voted for it. During the debate, the Congress today accused the government and the BJP of misleading Parliament and the people of the country on the pricing of fighter jet Rafale through "diversion, lies and deception". Congress chief Rahul Gandhi who led the debate from the Opposition's side stood by his statement in Parliament that the French President had told him personally that there was no secret clause on the Rafale deal. Defending the government, PM Narendra Modi in his sharp response, that lasted for roughly two hours said, "due to one careless allegation in the House on Rafale, both nations had to release statements." He said the nation will not forgive you (Congress) for misleading it. Modi also took a dig at Rahul Gandhi for walking towards him and hugging. “Some people are in a rush to get to the treasury benches. What is your hurry? Only 125 crore people of this country can do that.” Taking a swipe at the Opposition parties and exuding confidence of again forming the government, Modi said, "I pray to God to give you strength to bring a no-confidence motion in 2024 also; My best wishes with you." PM also took on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, whose party moved the no-confidence motion, saying "he's fallen into the trap of YSR."
