'Insult To Democracy': BJP Stages Protest Against Nitish Kumar’s Controversial Remark, Demands Resignation

The BJP on Wednesday staged a protest outside Bihar Bhawan in Delhi demanding CM Nitish Kumar's resignation over his bizarre statement on population control.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has stirred a controversy after he used derogatory language to explain the importance of girls’ education in population control. His remarks has drawn flak from the Bharatiya Janata Party which staged a protest outside Bihar Bhawan in Delhi demanding resignation from the Chief Minister. 

"The kind of indecent language Bihar CM Nitish Kumar used in the Assembly is condemnable. It is an insult to democracy... Women are the strength of the country... Nitish Kumar should resign," Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva told news agency ANI. 

The Janata Dal (United) leader was speaking at the state legislative assembly during the discussion on raising quotas for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the state. During his speech he spoke on the importance of educating women to control population in the state describing how a woman could restrain her husband during copulation. 

However, his inappropriate choice of words triggered a political row. 

Later, Kumar took back his words and apologised for his remarks. "I apologise if my statement has hurt anyone," he said while speaking to the media on Wednesday.  "I take back my words', he said, adding that the leaders were supporting him on Tuesday but must have been directed to criticise him today.

In response to Nitish Kumar's comments, the BJP's Bihar unit posted on social media platform X, "In the political history of India, there has been no leader as indecent as Nitish Babu. Nitish Babu has a fixation with 'B-grade' adult films. Publicly, there should be a ban on his double entendres."

The National Commission for Women also wrote to the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly urging action against Kumar. 

"The National Commission for Women has come across in the electronic media about the crude remarks made inside the Bihar Legislative Assembly by Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Nitish Kumar during the tabling of the caste census report," the letter stated. 

"The Commission strongly condemns and protests the use of such derogatory, vulgar statement made by persons holding responsible position which shows extreme disrespect to women," it added.
