Nita Ambani, Chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, in a recent interview spoke at length about her vision, India's rich heritage, and the legacy she wants to leave behind.
The Reliance Foundation Chairperson, speaking of the succession plan, said her three children – Akash, Isha and Anant Ambani – played a key role in the succession planning.
"All of them are so passionate about what they do. And I sometimes just have to watch them fly to their own dreams," Nita Ambani said in a recent exclusive interview with Bloomberg Television.
While Akash Ambani is leading the telecom business, heading the Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, Isha Ambani is the Director of Reliance Retail Ltd and Anant is leading the Group’s green energy projects, including the rescue and the rehabilitation Center for Animals in Gujarat, she said.
She also responded to the criticism around the extravagant wedding of her son, Anant Ambani. Speaking on the lavish wedding, Nita Ambani said every parent wants to do the best for their children and added that the rich Indian culture and heritage could take a centre stage due to the wedding.
When asked if there was one moment from the wedding that touched her heart, Nita Ambani said, "My son Anant has been fighting obesity from a very young age because of his asthma and he went up on a stage as a confident bridegroom, he told me...Mom, it is not what I am physically, it is what my heart is. And when I saw him holding his life partner’s hand, I think that’s what was the most touching feeling, as a mother."
She also said that the biggest decision of her life was to choose her life partner and added that she is blessed to be married to her best friend.
"I often tell my children, the biggest decision you take in life is to choose your life partner and every day of my life I feel so blessed because I am married to my best friend", Nita said on being asked about her marriage to Mukesh Ambani.
Nita Ambani plays a crucial role in shaping Reliance’s future along with spearheading major initiatives beyond business. She is also leading Reliance's new joint venture with Disney, which aims to challenge global streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon, and Sony in Asia’s biggest entertainment market.
Speaking on Disney-Reliance's joint venture, she said, "It's a new chapter, a new beginning, I'm ready to take on new challenges and very excited."
