Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on Friday said that nine Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists involved in the attack on a police bus in Pantha Chowk have been eliminated in the last 24 hours.
Three policemen and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan were also injured in the gunfight in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar district.
The top cop also asserted that the Hyderpora encounter was “transparent” and said the political leaders questioning the “clean chit” given to the forces should submit evidence to the investigation panels.
“We have made it clear Hyderpora operation was transparent. If they have evidence, they should present it to the investigation panels,” PTI quoted Singh as saying at a press conference here.
“We feel hurt about the utterances,” he added when asked about the political leaders’ comments against the probe by the local police.
Stating the law will take its own course in the matter, the DGP further said the comments made by the political leaders are “unlawful”.
The top remarks came a day after National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah demanded a judicial probe into the incident.
Abdullah said the SIT report giving clean chit to the security forces was wrong, adding civilians were killed during the Hyderpora encounter.
“The police report is wrong. The police have done it to save themselves. They had killed them and there is no doubt about it,” PTI quoted Abdullah as saying in Srinagar.
“The police should not work like this where they cause pain to the hearts of people,” he added.
Three civilians were killed in the encounter at Srinagar’s Hyderpora earlier on November 15.
