Chandigarh: On Saturday, Punjab reported 7,041 new Covid cases along with 138 deaths. This was also the second time Punjab crossed the 7,000-mark since the pandemic began – earlier, on April 25, the state had reported 7,014 cases.
Owing to the continuing rise in cases, the state government has announced new restrictions that will continue May 15th 2021. The Punjab government has also asked the farmers at protest to avoid large gatherings to curb the spread of the virus. 


Punjab reported 7,327 fresh COVID-19 cases, 5,244 discharges, and 157 deaths in the last 24 hours on Sunday, bringing the total active cases to 60,108 and death toll to 9,317.

The Punjab government has added new restrictions which include: 



  • All shops selling non essential items to stay closed.

  • Essential shops include that are allowed to remain open - chemists , shops selling milk, bread, fruits, vegetables, poultry,  meat, mobile repair etc.

  • Inter-state travel will not be allowed by without negative Covid report or Vaccination Certificate.

  • All govt offices and banks to work at 50 percent capacity.

  • Only 2 persons allowed in four wheelers.

  • No pillion riders on scooter or motorcycle unless family.

  • Gatherings capped at 10 for wedding/ funeral.

  • Villages to organize 'thikri' pehra to ensure night curfew and weekend curfew.

  • Religious places to be closed by 6.00 pm. 

  • RT-PCR test for rehriwalas and roadside vendors is a must.

  • Appeal to Farmer Unions and religious leaders not hold gatherings and restrict number of protestors at toll plaza etc.
