New Delhi: Amid chants of "Modi," "Modi," "Modi" and a standing ovation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday afternoon entered the Lok Sabha chamber of the new Parliament building, that he had inaugurated in a ceremony earlier this morning. He arrived at the chamber for the second phase of the inauguration ceremony.
The prime minister greeted several leaders as he walked down the path accompanied by Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla.
The room buzzed with applause from all the members of the Parliament, Chief Ministers of different States and other dignitaries in the Lok Sabha chamber, including union finance minister Nirmala Sithraman, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde amongst others.
The prime minister inaugurated the new Parliament building on Sunday, despite 20 opposition parties backing out.
PM Modi began the inauguration ceremony early in the morning by placing the ‘Sengol’ in the Lok Sabha chamber and taking the blessing from Adheems from Tamil Nadu. He later unveiled the plaque to mark the inauguration of the new Parliament building.
After inaugurating the new building, PM Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union ministers and Chief Ministers of different States attended a multi-faith prayer meeting.
“As the new building of India’s Parliament is inaugurated, our hearts and minds are filled with pride, hope and promise. May this iconic building be a cradle of empowerment, igniting dreams and nurturing them into reality. May it propel our great nation to new heights of progress,” PM Modi wrote in a tweet.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister released a special ₹75 coin and a commemorative stamp, symbolizing the historical significance of the new Parliament building.
