New Delhi: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has sent a notice to the Director General of Police of West Bengal and has asked for a factual report within 48 hours over the death of a 7-year-old girl in Kolkata, reported news agency ANI. 


A man was arrested from Kolkata’s Tiljala area on Monday for killing his neighbour’s seven years old daughter as “human sacrifice” to have a child of his own. 


In the notice dated March 27, the child rights body stated it has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter under Section 13(1)(j) of the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005. 






“You are requested to investigate/inquire into the matter and submit the detailed factual report of the matter, along with authenticated copies of the relevant documents to the Commission within 48 hours of issue of this letter,” said NCPCR Chairperson, Priyanka Kanoongo in the notice.


Killed Child On Directions Of A ‘Tantirk’: Accused


The accused, Aloke Kumar who hailed from Bihar, confessed to "sacrificing" the child at the directions of a tantrik. The latter had assured Aloke that the sacrifice of a minor girl would bless him with a child. According to IANS, The tantrik, also from Bihar, is yet to be arrested. According to news agency PTI, the girl was allegedly sexually molested by Aloke Kumar. The body has been sent for autopsy.


The accused said his wife had suffered three miscarriages and that's why he contacted the tantrik, who suggested the sacrifice of a minor girl. When his wife became pregnant again, the tantrik told him to go ahead with the sacrifice so that he could get a healthy child. 


Protests By Locals 


Following the incident, enraged locals took to roads to protest the murder of the child. The body of the victim, who lived in a flat on Sridhar Roy Road, was discovered at the neighbour's flat. She had been missing since Sunday morning.
