Navjot Singh Sidhu Withdraws Resignation As Punjab Congress Chief After Meeting Rahul Gandhi

Navjot Singh Sidhu, who resigned as the party's Punjab unit head over 'dissatisfaction' with the shake-up in the state, has expressed hope that his concerns would be taken up properly.

New Delhi: After weeks-long political drama, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu has withdrawn his resignation from the post of Punjab Congress chief and will resume his duties soon. 

While information about the same, All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Punjab Harish Rawat said that Sidhu has shared his concern with Rahul Gandhi and high command has assured that his concerns will be taken care of.

"He assured Rahul Gandhi that he has withdrawn his resignation and he will resume his duties as the PCC president," Rawat said while speaking to media on Friday.

"I shared all my concerns with Rahul Gandhi. Everything has been sorted out," Sidhu said after meeting former Congress President. 

Sidhu resigned from the post of PCC President on September 28 following troubles with the party's Punjab unit. However, Congress did not accept his resignation and suggested him to meet senior leaders in the national capital.

Sidhu arrived in the national capital on Thursday on the instructions of the Congress high command and met party's General Secretary K.C. Venugopal and Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat.

"Whatever my issues were... I have told the party high command, I am sure that Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will understand my point and I have faith in their decision. Whatever decision they take will be in the interest of the Congress and Punjab," Sidhu said after the meeting.

Sidhu and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi have spoken on some issues and a solution is expected.

It is being said that the Congress leadership wants to put behind the chapter of the Punjab crisis before the working committee meeting which is scheduled to take place on October 16.
