New Delhi: Amid the ongoing tussle between Punjab Congress and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu in the past few weeks, the former met party's high command in the national capital on Wednesday.


Sidhu met former party chief Rahul Gandhi at his residence in New Delhi after his meeting with All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra this morning.



Ovet the past few weeks, Sidhu has raised the banner of revolt against Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and sources close to news agency IANS say that a solution is being worked on to defuse the tension between the two factions.


According to reports, Sidhu's meeting with Rahul Gandhi lasted for hours and party leadership is reportedly making efforts end the loggerheads to bring all leaders together ahead of next year's Punjab Assembly polls and present a united face of the party.


Earlier in the day, the Amritsar East MLA tweeted his photo with Priyanka Gandhi but remained tight-lipped about what transpired, and neither did the Congress make an official statement.

Congress Panel Met To Resolve Punjab Crisis


Congress general secretary in-charge of Punjab, Harish Rawat had said that Sidhu will be called to meet the the three-member panel headed by Mallikarjun Kharge soon and the issue will be resolved by the first week of July.


Several leaders inclulding Punjab Congress president Sunil Jhakhar, finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Rajya Sabha MP Pratap Singh Bajwa and MP Ravneet Singh Bittu met Rahul Gandhi earlier to apprise him of the situation after infighting escalated in the state.


Amarinder Singh On Punjab Crisis


Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had met the three-member Congress panel in Delhi earlier this month.  According to reports, the panel has not recommended the removal of the chief minister and Singh is likely to lead the party in the upcoming Assembly polls.


However, a slew of reforms have been suggested in the party state unit including Sidhu's rehabilitation in the Punjab cabinet. Meanwhile, it is also said that Singh does not want Sidhu to be elevated as the deputy CM of Pujab, but is ready to accommodate him in the cabinet.
