WATCH | Navjot Singh Sidhu Responds To BJP’s Attack Over Calling Pakistan PM Imran Khan ‘Bada Bhai’

Notably, Capt Amarinder Singh, who is likely to align with BJP in Punjab, had called Navjot Singh Sidhu a “threat to national security”. 

New Delhi: Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu on Saturday responded after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attacked him for calling Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan his “big brother”.

This comes after Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) President Navjot Singh Sidhu earlier in the day reached the integrated check post of the Kartarpur Corridor at Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan’s Kartarpur.

Responding to media questions on BJP’s salvo at him, Navjot Singh Sidhu said: “Let BJP say whatever they want…”

Earlier, Amit Malviya, In-charge of BJP’s National Information & Technology Department, shared a video clip of Navjot Singh Sidhu on Twitter, writing: “Rahul Gandhi’s favourite Navjot Singh Sidhu calls Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan his “bada bhai”. Last time he had hugged Gen Bajwa, Pakistan Army’s Chief, heaped praises Is it any surprise that the Gandhi siblings chose a Pakistan loving Sidhu over veteran Amarinder Singh?”

In the purported video, as Sidhu is being welcomed on behalf of Pakistan PM Imran Khan, the Punjab Congress chief can be heard saying: “Mera bada bhai hai.. Usne bohot pyaar diya hai mujhe. (He is my elder brother.. He has given me a lot of love)”.

As the matter gained attention, Punjab Minister Pargat Singh hit back at BJP saying: “When PM Modi goes (to Pakistan) he is a 'Desh Premi’, when Sidhu goes, he is ‘Desh Drohi’...Can’t I call you a brother.. We follow Guru Nanak Dev’s philosophy”, ANI reported.

Notably, former Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh, who is likely to align with BJP in the upcoming state assembly election, had called Navjot Singh Sidhu a “threat to national security”. 

Soon after his resignation from the post of Punjab Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh had stressed that Sidhu “is friends with (Pakistan Army chief) Qamar Javed Bajwa and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan”. 

“For the sake of my country, I’ll oppose his (Navjot Singh Sidhu) name for CM of Punjab. It’s a matter of national security. Pakistan PM Imran Khan is his friend. Sidhu has a relation with Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa,” he had said.

Meanwhile, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu credited both PM Narendra Modi and Imran Khan for the reopening of Kartarpur Sahib Corridor: “With the efforts of PM Narendra Modi and Pakistan PM Imran Khan, this has been made possible”.

“I request that if you want to change Punjab’s life, we should open the borders (for cross-border trade). Why should we go through Mundra Port, a total of 2100 kms? Why not from here, where it’s only 21 kms (to Pakistan),” he said, as quoted by ANI.
