New Delhi: Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu set social media abuzz after he tweeted a photo of himself with former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh on Wednesday ahead of the crucial state polls. 


In a cryptic tweet, Navjot Singh Sidhu said, "Picture loaded with possibilities... with bhajji, the shining star". Punjab Assembly polls are due early next year.



The development comes on a day the first meeting of the Punjab Congress campaign committee, constituted for the state Assembly polls, was held in Chandigarh.


The Congress has appointed Navjot Sidhu as chairman of the state Election Committee.


Last week, there was speculation that the BJP was planning to rope in former Indian cricket players Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh for the election.


The Delhi Crown, a media company, tagged Harbhajan Singh and tweeted, "Punjab BJP eyeing Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh ahead of Punjab polls 2022: Reliable sources. The duo might join BJP soon."


However, Harbhajan Singh scotched the romours by caling it "fake news". Interetsingly, specultion around the cricketer's political career has been circulating since the 2019 Lok Sabha election.


Recently, PTI reported that the former Indian off-spinner would soon announce his retirement from competitive cricket. Harbhajan is likely to take up the role of a consultant or mentor with one of the IPL franchises.


The 41-year-old Harbhajan had featured in a few matches during the first phase of last IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders.
