New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that Coronavirus may be an "invisible enemy", but country’s Corona warriors and medical workers are "invincible". PM Modi’s statement comes during his video address at the occasion of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka.  “In the battle of Invisible vs Invincible, our medical workers are sure to win,” PM said. He also warned that violence, abuse and rude behaviour against front-line workers is not acceptable.


He said that India’s domestic manufacturers have started production of PPEs and have supplied about 1 crore PPEs to Covid warriors, in a major gain for the Make In India missionHighlighting the role of doctors in the fight against Coronavirus pandemic, he said “the world seeks both ‘care’ and ‘cure’ from you.” At such a time, the world is looking up to our doctors, nurses, medical staff and scientific community with hope and gratitude PM said.


Hailing the success of Ayushmann Bharat scheme, PM Modi said that it is the world’s largest healthcare scheme. In less than 2 years, 1 crore people have benefitted from this scheme. Women and those staying in villages are among the major beneficiaries, he said.


Prime Minister also said that the country has seen rapid progress in setting up 22 more AIIMS.


Over the last five years, we have been able to add over 30,000 seats in MBBS and 15,000 seats in post-graduation, PM said highlighting the steps taken by the government in healthcare sector.


PM’s address comes two days after  his government completed one year in office after winning a second term at the Centre last year.


PM urged maximum discussion and participation on three points

1) Advances in tele-medicine: PM emphasised on research on new models that make tele-medicine popular on a larger scale.

2) The other is related to ‘Make in India’ in the health sector. PM said he was optimistic about the initial gains  in the field. “Our domestic manufacturers have started production of PPEs and have supplied about 1 crore PPEs to Covid warriors,” he said.

3)  IT related tools for healthier societies.

PM hailed the utility of Aarogya Setu app and said that 12 crore health-conscious people have downloaded it. This has been very helpful in the fight against Coronavirus
