Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir for the first time in his third term, where he will participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21.
Though the final venue for the Yoga Day is yet to be decided, sources said that the event is set to take place at the SKICC backyards overlooking the Dal Lake and Zabarwan Hills in Srinagar.
PM Modi is likely to visit Kashmir on June 20 and will stay for the night and participate in the International Yoga Day in Srinagar on June 21, sources said.
The prime minister has been promoting yoga in everyday life, which has united millions of people across the world. The Yoga Day aims to transform yoga into a broader movement, with a special emphasis on promoting women's well-being and advancing global health and peace, a government statement said.
This initiative aims to promote women empowerment through evidence-based research, it added.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration, led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has issued a high alert ahead of Modi's visit, while the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council has been directed to oversee the arrangements for the Yoga Day event.
Earlier in the day, PM Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir amid recent terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, NSA Ajit Doval and other officials gave PM Modi an overview of the security-related situation in the UT and apprised him of the counter-terror efforts being undertaken.
Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council has directed its various sports wings to mobilize 3000 players to participate in the mega event.
Last year, Srinagar celebrated International Yoga Day at the Botanical Garden in the capital, which was attended by LG Manoj Sinha and other top officials of Jammu and Kashmir.
