Kupwara: In a major breakthrough, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday busted a Pakistani sponsored narco-terror module and recovered heroin worth Rs 60 crore in a joint operation in Karnah town of Kupwara district.
The police also arrested the smuggler identified as Mukhtiyar Shah of Panjitara Tanghdhar. He was in contact with the terrorists based in Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
Kupwara Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) GV Sundeep Chakravarthy said the entire operation was being run in the last few days on the basis of intelligence inputs, adding nine kg heroin has been recovered from the arrested person.

He added that information was received from police sources that a heavy consignment of heroin was being shifted from across the border with the motive to extend financial support to the militant organizations within the valley.
The SSP said that raids were conducted at many places in Kupwara following inputs, adding the seized heroin was to be shifted to many places in north Kashmir and Srinagar.
The case is being further investigated to find out that the arrested person was linked to which terror outfit and approximately how much drugs have so far been brought from across the border.

The police have in the last year seized around 300 kg of drugs from Kupwara and Baramulla regions.
