Begusarai (Bihar): Former Bihar minister Manju Verma on Tuesday surrendered before a court here in connection with the Muzaffarpur shelter home scandal case. Verma had been dodging arrest after an Arms Act case was lodged against her. Madhu, who was also a close aide of Brajesh Thakur, the prime accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home scandal, also surrendered this morning.

Verma reached the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Prabhat Trivedi in an auto rickshaw. Dramatic scenes were witnessed in the court premises as she fainted as she entered along with her aides. Water had to be sprinkled on her after which she gained consciousnesses. Subsequently, she was taken into the courtroom, reported PTI

The Supreme Court had on November 12 pulled up the Bihar Police for failing to arrest the former minister and directed the DGP to appear before it in person on November 27 if she was not nabbed by then.

Verma had stepped down as the minister for social welfare in August, following reports that her husband, Chandrashekhar Verma, had close links with Brajesh Thakur. Over 30 girls were allegedly raped at the shelter home.

The Arms Act case was filed against Verma after a huge quantity of ammunition was seized from her residence here during a CBI raid.
