In a hit-and-run case, one woman was killed and a man was injured after a BMW ran over two people who were on a motorbike in Mumbai. The incident occurred at 5:30 AM on Sunday when the couple on the bike crossed Atria Mall in Worli.
The BMW car belongs to a deputy leader of the Shinde-led Shiv Sena in the Palghar district, who has been detained by the police. The police are currently searching for his son, who is absconding, according to ABP Mahja.
According to ANI, the husband had managed to jump off the bike, however, the woman succumbed to injuries in the hospital. The deceased woman has been identified as Kaveri Nakhwa, 45, who was living in Worli Koliwada.
Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde while addressing the media called the Mumbai hit-and-run case “very unfortunate.” He further told the media that strict action would be taken against those who are found guilty.
“I had a conversation with the police. Whoever is guilty, action will be taken against them...We treat everyone equally. Whatever happens will be legal...", he was quoted by ANI.
The couple — who are from the fishing community — had visited the fish auction in the morning to buy fish, reported ABP Majha. When the car struck them the two landed on the bonnet but his wife was carried away as the car tried to flee in a hurry.
This comes after a Pune Porsche car hit-and-run, on May 19, a 17-year-old boy who was allegedly drunk and fatally knocked down two software engineers who were on a motorcycle in Pune's Kalyani Nagar area.
