New Delhi: Eight Mumbai-bound flights were diverted to nearby airports due to bad weather conditions in the city on Friday, news agency ANI reported.
"Due to bad weather conditions, as a precaution, around eight flights were diverted to nearby airports. CSMIA advises all its passengers to check their flight status with their respective airlines," the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) said in a statement.
Owing to bad weather following extreme downpour and low visibility, the CSMIA pro-actively informed all passengers of flight reschedules and also provided refreshments for the flyers awaiting to board, the statement added.
Several parts of Mumbai, especially the eastern suburbs, received heavy rains on Friday evening, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

According to a report by news agency PTI, the island city received 8.23 mm of rainfall, western suburbs 19.72 mm and eastern suburbs 27.66 mm of rainfall since 8 am. Vikhroli, Bhandup, Nahur and Malad received the highest rainfall between 4 pm and 7 pm.
Mumbai did not report major waterlogging anywhere except on the 24th road in Sion area. However, some buses of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) on the route were diverted.
As per reports, road traffic slowed down due to the heavy showers but suburban local trains were running without much delay, officials said.
A few incidents of short circuit and tree fall were also reported but nobody was injured, the officials further added.
Notably, the city this year has witnessed the fourth-highest amount of precipitation recorded in October in the last 10 years. As per IMD, in the past 10 years, Mumbai has seen more than 100 mm of rainfall in the month of October only four times (including this year).
