It has been raining since Saturday in Maharashtra’s capital city throwing normal life out of gear. Among the areas that are highly flooded by rainwater are Kurla, Andheri, Sion and Santa Cruz.
The roads are gushing with water, raising questions on the preparations done by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Shiv Sena’s party leader, Uddhav Thackeray, claims that the civic body was better prepared than all the previous years. Shiv Sena holds power in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The downpour is on hold since last evening. It has already claimed three lives so far.
The Director of Mumbai’s Meteorological Department, Ajay Kumar, told that in 24 hours, Mumbai has received 231.4 mm of rainfall. This is considered to be way beyond the normal level. The city is warned to receive heavy to very heavy rain in the next 24-48 hours.
While the south-western parts of the country are dealing with heavy rainfall, Central and North India continues to struggle with the scorching summer heat.
They are expected to receive downpour within the next few days. Delhi is set to welcome Monsoon by June 29 which is the standard time of the year for the national capital to receive rainfall.
