Mumbai: As the financial capital Mumbai plunged into darkness due to power outage on Monday morning as a result of grid failure, several suburban trains on the central line and the western line have been suspended. This has hit the lifeline of the capital Mumbai locals as essential service workers faced difficulties in reaching their destinations. Commuters have been waiting for almost an hour-and-half for the trains to restart operations. Most of the public in local trains are stranded and waiting to hear the announcement pertaining to the trains resuming operations.

"Mumbai suburban trains on CR held up due to grid failure. We will update ASAP. Kindly bear with us," Central Railways tweeted.



However, as per reports it may take an hour or more for the light to be restored. It is a part of the grid failure and not a complete grid failure.

Western Railway also intimated commuters of grid failure and updated about the services that remain suspended. It said, "In view of interruption in Traction power at 10.05 hrs due to Grid failure of Tata Power company, services btwn Churchgate & Borivili are suspended. It shall be resumed as soon as traction power supply is restored."





Adani Electricity, a major power supplier in the cityi, said is it "currently supplying to critical services in Mumbai". Multiple operators, including the state-run BEST, Adani Electricity and Tata Power supply power to the city.

Some of the areas including Goregaon, Sion, Andheri, Goregaon, Prabhadevi don't have power.

50-60 per cent regions have been impacted.

The grid connecting to Thane and MMR region has been impacted. Infact, Mumbai's Police CCTV function has been hampered too. Traffic signals at some areas were also not working.

Meanwhile Indian Railways' Central Railway zone which operates local train services in Mumbai has increased the number of special services in the city. The state government is likely to decide on permitting people to travel in local trains following social distancing. SO far only those people are allowed to travel in local trains who fall in the category of essential services.
