A man has been arrested for making threatening calls to the Mumbai Police Control Room claiming to be associated with the Dawood Ibrahim gang, police said on Tuesday. The arrested person said that the Dawood gang had instructed him to blow up Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The caller also threatened to target JJ Hospital, a prominent medical institution in Mumbai, according to police. According to a Times Now report, the man has been identified as Kamran Khan.

After Khan was arrested from the Sion area of Mumbai, a case was registered against him by the Azad Maidan police under Section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with statements promoting enmity, hatred, or ill-will between different religious, racial, language, or regional groups or castes.

This is not the first time PM Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath have received a threat call. In July, the Mumbai Police traffic control room received a threat message claiming that PM Modi and CM Yogi are on target. The accused also threatened to “be ready for a 26/11 like terrorist attack”.

A case under section 509 (2) of the IPC was registered against the unknown, said police officials.

In another incident, police had detained a 45-year-old man from Gorakhpur a week before in July for allegedly issuing a threat to kill PM Modi and Yogi Adityanath over the UP-112 helpline number. The accused was identified as Sanjay Kumar. According to Deoria Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) D K Mishra, the caller introduced himself as Arun Kumar, a resident of the Bhujauli Colony of the city, as reported by PTI.

Police traced the location of the mobile phone from which the call was made to Devrad village of Harpur Budhat in Gorakhpur district, which led them to Sanjay Kumar who was apprehended, the SHO said. An initial inquiry revealed that the accused was in an inebriated condition when he placed the call to the helpline, police said, as per the report.
