A five-star hotel in Mumbai received a bomb threat call Monday from an unidentified person who demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore to defuse them. The accused called up the hotel and said of having planted bombs at four location. A case has been registered under sections 336, 507 of the Idian Penal Code (IPC) at Sahar police station, said Mumbai Police, as reported by news agency ANI.
The call was received by the staff of Mumbai's Lalit hotel at around 6 pm, according to an NDTV report.
Later, the threat turned out to be a hoax as no bomb was found anywhere in the hotel during security checks.
The Sahar police has started an investigation to nab the culprit after a case was filed in this regard by the hotel staff.
The incident comes after Mumbai Police's traffic control unit on Saturday, August 20 received a threat message warning of a 26/11-like terror attack.
The message was allegedly sent from a Pakistan-based phone number stating that six people will execute the plan in India.
Several text messages were received by the Mumbai Traffic Police's control room on the WhatsApp number of its helpline.
Later, on the same day, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch detained an individual from the Virar area during its probe connected to the message threatening a ‘26/11-type’ attack.
The deadly terrorist attack on November 26, 2008, left hundreds of people dead including 18 security personnel and injured several others in Mumbai after 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists from Pakistan arrived by sea route and opened fire at victims.
Nine terrorists were later killed by the security forces, including the NSG, the country’s elite commando force. Ajmal Kasab was the only terrorist who was captured alive. He was hanged four years later on November 21, 2012.
