Mulayam Singh Yadav Funeral Highlights: The mortal remains of Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder of the Samajwadi Party (SP), arrived at his native Saifai village on Monday, hours after the leader died at a Gurugram hospital. Former Uttar Pradesh CM died Monday after battling prolonged illness at Medanta hospital in Gurugram, where he was undergoing treatment.A huge gathering was seen in Saifai where people from adjoining villages turned up to pay their tributes to their leader. The cremation of Mulayam Singh Yadav will be held in the village at 3 pm on Tuesday.Mulayam's brother Shivpal Yadav was seen consoling Akhilesh Yadav, placing his hand on his shoulder as the latter broke down.The funeral proceedings will be held with state honours, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced.Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and state BJP President Bhupendra Chaudhary reached Sefai on Monday evening and offered floral tributes to the mortal remains of Mulayam Singh Yadav.Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Chhatisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Bihar CM Nitesh Kumar are likely to arrive in Saifai on Tuesday to participate in the funeral.Traders in the district have decided to keep the markets closed on October 11 as a mark of respect to their leader.In view of a large number of people including VVIPs, VIPs expected to arrive for the darshan of the late leader, tight security arrangements have been made, PTI reported. A large number of locals, party workers, leaders and women are continuously reaching Saifai village to extend their condolences and pay tributes.Born on November 22, 1939 into a farming family, Yadav was elected an MLA 10 times and an MP, mostly from Mainpuri and Azamgarh, seven times.He was defence minister from 1996 to 1998 in H D Deve Gowda’s United Front government, and became chief minister thrice, in 1989-91, 1993-95, and 2003-07.
