New Delhi: A 56-year-old jeweller was arrested by Mumbai Police on Monday for issuing threats to Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family, PTI reported. The person made nine calls on a public number of the Reliance Foundation Hospital in Girgaon area in the morning.

The person, Bishnu Vidu Bhowmik, 56, is a resident of Borivali West and was arrested from Dahisar area in connection with the threat calls, a police official told PTI. He runs a jewellery shop in south Mumbai.

"Mumbai Police arrested the caller namely Bishnu Vidu Bhowmik, aged 56, and registered an FIR u/s 506 (2) of IPC. He made nine calls between 10:39 am and 12:04pm from his personal phone on eight different numbers. He is a resident of Borivali West," ANI quoted Neelotpal DCP, Zone 2, as saying.

Police said, as per preliminary investigation, Bhoumik was a repeat offender who had made similar calls in the past.

Police launched a probe into the matter after Reliance Foundation Hospital filed a complaint on receiving phone calls threatening to kill the family of industrialist Mukesh Ambani.

"Reliance Foundation Hospital filed a complaint about receiving calls posing threat to Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family. More than three calls were received at the hospital. Case being filed, probe underway," ANI quoted police as saying.

Speaking to ABP News, Reliance Foundation Hospital CEO, Tarang Gianchandani said, "We have received 8 threat calls today. We are treating the caller as a terrorist, we have informed the police about this and we have also told our security guards."

"The call was from an unknown person who threatened Mukesh Ambani and family," she added.

According to ABP News sources, a team of Mumbai Police, Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad team and Crime Branch team were dispatched to Mukesh Ambani's residence, Antilia. A police team in civilian clothes has also been deployed near Ambani's residence.

This is not the first time that the business tycoon has received such a threat. Last year, a suspicious car was found a short distance from Antilia from which 20 gelatin sticks were recovered. However, it was not assembled. A letter was also found in this car parked outside Antilia, threatening to kill the Ambani family.

Following the incident, Mukesh Ambani's Z + security was handed over to CRPF while his wife Nita Ambani was given Y category security.

In the year 2013, Ambani had received threats from Hizbul Mujahideen, after which he was given Z + security by the then Manmohan Singh government while Nita Ambani was given Y + security and his children were given graded security by the Maharashtra government.
